Swan Creek

Our first stop on the Chesapeake was the delightful Swan Creek. The Bay seems to be chock-full of anchorages in creeks. The creeks are a little windy and pretty shallow. Those attributes conspire to make some serene, protected anchorage. Swan Creek was our introduction. It is just a short dinghy ride to a dock and a nice long walk to charming Rock Hall, Maryland.

We are getting accustomed to the crab boats on the Bay. They’re reminiscent of Maine lobster boats but are also completely their own thing. Not much freeboard, they are long long long in back and have their covered cabin far forward. Like a low rider hotrod of a lobster boat. We don’t know enough about the differences between the two fisheries to explain why the boats have evolved in different directions, but plan to chat up the next crabber we meet so we can find out.

…glad I don’t live across street.

Check out this old girl!
